Healing and Helping is the Focus at LMC

On a quiet street in downtown Mendocino sits a quaint Victorian house, replete with elegant Swedish-modern décor, original artwork and polished wood floors. Several patrons and staff are laughing and conversing at the bar.

Is this a tasting room? A new gallery? No, it’s a dispensary!

The Leonard Moore Recreational Cannabis Dispensary was established in the village of Mendocino in 2009. Gabriel Martin, managing director notes the name of the dispensary honors Leonard Moore- a family friend, artist and activist who died in 1992, when the only cannabis available to ease his suffering had to be obtained illegally.

“We’ve created a healing environment, where people have ample time to address health issues. We’re dispelling stereotypes and strengthening the community’s dedication to support the legal cannabis industry,” says Gabriel, who initially bucked tradition by creating an open-door policy. “There was an initial sense of fear in the early days, but concerns rapidly fell away, because this has never been a threatening place.”

Gabriel is known for the development of his pure Indica, locally-cultivated “Ingrid” strain, a mainstay of the dispensary for over a decade. Ingrid took 1st Place at the first High Times Nor-Cal Cannabis Cup in the Concentrates division. Now Ingrid can be found throughout California,

Gabriel is committed that the products sold at Leonard Moore meet his exacting standards. “We work with small farmers and producers, many of whom are second and third generation contributors to the cannabis culture we are renowned for. Cannabis is a way of life for those of us who live here: sustaining our health, livelihood and community.”
Leonard Moore has been a community supporter and most recently was a founding sponsor for a “Cannabis on the Coast” event, in which participants offered discounts and specials that included donations to the Mendocino County Cancer Resource Centers.

Visit Mendocino’s premier social consumption space at Ingrid’s Lounge next door, and enjoy the latest addition to the Leonard Moore brand. “Nothing is more gratifying than helping to improve the quality of life of people I know and love,” Gabriel concludes.
