24th Annual Legendary Boonville Beer Festival.
It all began in 1997 when the folks at Anderson Valley Brewing Company decided to invite some of their brewer friends to join them at their facility in Boonville, California for a casual party. They had such a great time they thought “Why not invite more breweries and vendors to pour their beers and charge admission to raise profits for the Anderson Valley community?”
And thus, the Legendary Boonville Beer Festival was born. Since then, the event has grown from a handful of breweries and a few hundred people to nearly 7,000 attendees and over 90 breweries and cideries each year.
These days, the event is held at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds and is hosted by The Wee Boont Foundation, who for the past two decades have helped organize the festival and have raised over $1,700,000 for local non-profits throughout the Anderson Valley such as the Navarro River Resource and the Anderson Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
What makes this festival so great that it draws people from the world over and has earned the cult-like status of “THE Bucket List Beer Fest?” First things first, for less than the cost of dinner for two in a big city, attendees receive entry to the festival, a collectors glass and lanyard, and UNLIMITED samplings of all the porters, stouts, IPA’s, lagers, ciders, and meads they care to enjoy among the beautiful Boonville landscape.
Affordable camping is available at the fairgrounds adjacent to the festival as well as the many nearby state and county parks, and designated drivers can get into the festival for just a few dollars. There is always live music and a wide variety of food, art, crafts, and other merchandise available for purchase from local and regional vendors.
The 24th Annual Legendary Boonville Beer Festival will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Mendocino County Fairgrounds in Boonville. On-line ticket sales for this 21 and over event will begin in March and end in mid-April; for more information go to www.avbc.com.
We hope to see you there, and as we say in the Valley… Bahl Hornin’! (That means Good Drinkin’).
